ABSTRACT
This module focuses on the linkages between change, hydrology, and ecology. It outlines the variables required to sustain fish within healthy ecosystems, and discusses how these measures of stream quality and quantity are being impacted by hydrologic alterations. It also shows how these measures are connected to the needs of aquatic ecosystems. Brook Trout, the state fish of Pennsylvania, is used as a case study.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- To understand the needs of fish within aquatic ecosystems
- To understand the impact of climate, land use and human induced changes on streamflow regimes and therefore on aquatic ecosystems
