ABSTRACT
This module introduces the principles underlying river flow measurements and the main issues related to the interpretation of flow data.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Part 1: Hydrometry principles
- To understand application of the equations Q = vA and Q = f(h).
- To be introduced to the main techniques available for velocity measurements and the different types of gauging stations.
Part 2: Understanding the data
- To be able to explain uncertainty at the extremes.
- To understand common data quality issues.
Part 3: Hydrometric networks
- To know the organization and measurements associated with the UK Hydrometric Network.
- To understand uses of both flow measurements in the field and flow
records.
