ABSTRACT
The focus of the module is how to assess, quantify, and manage different pollution sources at the catchment scale, with a focus on diffuse sources and BMPs.
This module introduces the following concepts:
- Point versus diffuse sources: source apportionment
- Assessment strategies at the catchment scale: monitoring, indexes, and models
- Strategies to create and evaluate scenarios
- Best management practices (BMPs): different types and their efficiencies
- The total maximum daily load (TMDL) concept
- River basin management plans and special cases (intermittent
rivers)
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- To understand how to assess pollution sources in a river basin.
- To be able to use management models at the catchment scale.
- To be able to select suitable management practices to meet water
quality goals.
