Why do we need stream restoration and what possible benefits does it have?
ABSTRACT
This module will cover basic knowledge necessary for understanding stream restoration. This will include but is not limited to stream characteristics, patterns, and dimensions. The module will also go over the impetus for and challenges of stream restoration today as well as the potential benefits/effects of stream restoration on the United States and our future.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Know the elements of streams and their relationships with each other.
- Understand the motivation behind stream restoration.
- Know different approaches to stream restoration and when each is most appropriate for a given condition.
- Know the impacts of stream restoration on habitat, ecology, and surrounding areas.
- Know the challenges of stream restoration.
